Critique/Commentary #2

What really happened in Niger? by John Aravosis is an interestingly good read. He reflects on the past incident of Donald Trump's mishandling of the failed Niger mission that killed four American service members. Specifically, how Trump failed to offer his condolences to the families or publicly comment on their deaths. Aravosis goes on to say how Trump doesn't take any responsibility and likes to blame the democrats, Hillary, or his favorite Obama for everything that doesn't work out. Aravosis' most recent example is when Trump angrily responded "claiming that Obama and other previous presidents never offered condolences to the family of our military heroes." Aravosis brings many more examples to the table but then moves on to Trumps phone call with the pregnant widow of one of the fallen soldiers telling her that her husband "knew what he signed up for." Yet another insensitive move from the president.
But it gets even more interesting. There are reports coming in saying Trump isn't telling the full truth about what happened in Niger. Aravosis starts to wonder "what is Trump hiding?" He speculates that Trump made a rash decision that got those soldiers killed and is now covering it up. "In fact, the French claim that the mission in Niger didn't have enough intelligence backing it up, nor was there enough planning behind it." He continues to say that this isn't new. Back in January, a US Navy seal was killed during a mission that many suggest Trump rushed. " Trump made the decision to go in over dinner with Bannon and Kushner, rather than in the Situation Room where decisions like these are normally made and where the president has access to far more information, says Aravosis.
Aravosis main intended audience would be everyone that doesn't agree with Trump and people that curious about what went wrong during the mission. I don't disagree with Aravosis, but I also don't think he provides enough details to let the reader make up their mind about if it was Trump's fault or not that soldiers died, instead he kind of just plants this seed of wonder. Wonder not only about the failed mission but about if he is hiding the fact that he acted too quickly. It's something the public will just have to chew on for the time being.
