Critique/Commentary #1

I read "We can't just shrug Trump off" by Ruth Marcus, a columnist at the Washington Post. Marcus' intended audience is clearly anyone who isn't a Trump supporter, so pretty much liberals and the younger generations, although to be even more specific she writes to the activists or the people that are more willing to fight to have their voices heard verses roll over. This article is about Trump's behavior and how Americans are stuck in this loop of there-he-goes-again shrugs. She brings up many examples of Trump's behavior that we Americans should be calling into question. For example when Trump "tossed rolls of paper towels to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico like t-shirts at a sporting event" or "If there is a method in the insults he hurls at Kim Jong Un"(Marcus). Marcus finally ends on the idea that Trump is not a true patriot, stating "an essential part of patriotism means being willing to stand up for your country when it is under attack." She at this moment is talking about his unwillingness to accept that his best friend, Vladimir Putin has been undermining or attacking the United States but he isn't doing anything to protect this country. I agree with Ruth Marcus one thousand percent, and I'm not agreeing just because I am a liberal. I'm agreeing with the idea that Trump doesn't act like a president and that we shouldn't have this implanted there he goes again or there goes Trump being Trump again saying. We shouldn't be just sitting around quietly, "when there is so much to lament and to call out"(Marcus).
